The Palmarin Tree Project is actually a compilation of projects developed to make a positive environmental impact on our rural community of Palmarin. In addition to environmental rejuvination we work with local the government in protection measures, promote sustainability with local business and support education measures amongst youth. For more information click on any of the projects below. Iif you are interested in helping contact us or make a donation Although the area faces several challenges including
economic hardship, the most pressing issue at the moment is the loss of coastal
land. With the advancing ocean comes salt water intrusion, village displacement
and the destruction of infrastructure.Palmarin Carbon Offset ProgramWe all wish we could be a little greener. Sometimes it’s not so easy to do. This can be especially true when on vacation. Between CO2 spewing jet planes to one time use shampoo bottles, vacations can be tough on Mother Earth. In Palmarin; however, efforts have been made to curb this trend through the Palmarin Carbon Offset Program. One of the most critical trees to the local ecology and economy of Palmarin are the mangroves. The trees provide habitat for fish, mollusk, and bivalves as well as provide an attraction for tourists, making them critical to the entire local economy . Land ProtectionEven if the Palmarin Tree Project planted a million trees next year, it wouldn't mean much if we couldn't protect them. To make real gains in reforestation has to be well thought out from what species to are to be planted, where and then most importantly how are we going to make sure they will survive.Capacity Building Our focus isn't just trees, its the whole of community itself. That is
why we work with the local tree nursery so it can build up its own
capacity and operate even if the Tree Project wasn't there. Its a great thing to plant trees and help improve our environment. Its equally important to understand how our environment works, how we impact it and what we can do to help protect it. That is why the Palmarin Tree Project started Adventures in Education. |
