One of the most critical trees to the local ecology and economy of Palmarin are the mangroves. The trees provide habitat for fish, mollusk, and bivalves as well as provide an attraction for tourists, making them critical to the entire local economy. What We're Doing Mangroves have been used for firewood for decades greatly reducing their historic range. Fortunately they are one of the easiest trees to propagate. It only takes the man power and local will to make it happen The Palmarin Tree Project organizes local projects to help reestablish the mangroves in areas where they were one cut as well as promoting to the local community the value of this local treasure. Getting Involved If you want to support our current reforestation efforts make a donation to the project. If you or your group want to put in man hours to mangrove forestation and can be in Palmarin between August and October contact us at palmarinoffsets@gmail.com |
